Registered Nurse
My brother Brock was born with a rare genetic condition with a gene mutation at CACNA1A and had secondary Mitochondrial Disease. We were two years apart and he was my best friend. He was non verbal, in a wheelchair, was Trach and ventilator dependent and had a Gtube for nutrition. We spent most of our lives in and out of hospitals. He passed in August 2025 due to a fatal seizure caused by his genetic condition. I was his legal guardian along with my parents and was prepared to take care of him for the rest of our lives. There are little resources for siblings in general and when the sibling is special needs the resources and stories like yours become more and more scarce. This boy brought light, love, innocence, and happiness to everyone he saw. He always was smiling and was always happy to hang out with you. There aren’t words strong enough in the English language to convey the hole in my heart after he’s gone. And my biggest fear is him being forgotten.
